Project Overview
The 35 MLD Tertiary Sewage Treatment Plant at Bamroli builds on the success of India’s first large-scale reuse project, the 40 MLD Bamroli TTP. Encouraged by strong demand from industries at Sachin GIDC, and following the proven results of the earlier facility, Surat Municipal Corporation commissioned this expansion to further supply industrial-grade recycled water.
Using advanced tertiary technologies, Disc Media Filtration, Ultrafiltration (UF), Reverse Osmosis (RO), and Activated Carbon Filtration (ACF), the plant delivers high-quality water meeting stringent industrial standards (BOD < 5 mg/L, TSS < 5 mg/L, TDS < 500 mg/L).
This project reinforced Surat’s leadership as a national trendsetter in municipal sewage reuse, proving that wastewater can be turned into a sustainable revenue-generating resource.
Project Objectives
- Enable wastewater reuse for industrial-grade applications.
- Reduce dependency on conventional freshwater resources.
- Support sustainable industrial operations in Sachin GIDC.
- Create municipal revenue streams from treated wastewater sales.
- Promote energy efficiency and decarbonization in water treatment.
The Challenge
- Expanding sewage reuse capacity to meet the growing industrial demand in Surat.
- Ensuring consistent water quality under variable wastewater input conditions.
- Aligning project execution with the city’s long-term circular economy goals.
The Solution
Enviro engineered and delivered a high-performance tertiary treatment plant:
- Disc Media Filtration for primary polishing.
- Ultrafiltration and RO for advanced purification.
- Activated Carbon Filtration for final polishing and contaminant removal.
- Fully automated systems ensuring continuous 35 MLD net output that meets industrial water quality requirements.
The Results
- 35 MLD of reliable industrial-grade water supplied daily to Sachin GIDC.
- Expanded Surat’s municipal reuse portfolio, following the flagship 40 MLD Bamroli TTP.
- Reduced dependence on scarce freshwater, conserving resources for citizens.
- Strengthened Surat’s role as a national leader in wastewater reuse.
Why It Matters
This project demonstrates the scalability of municipal sewage reuse. By replicating and expanding proven models, cities like Surat can create resilient, sustainable, and financially viable water systems paving the way for similar initiatives across India.
