Project Overview
The 212 MLD Water Treatment Plant with a 290 MLD Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) facility in Kosad, Surat, is a landmark in sustainable urban water management. Delivered under an EPC + O&M contract for Surat Municipal Corporation, the project demonstrates how large-scale water supply can be paired with advanced ZLD principles to ensure that no wastewater is wasted.
Treatment units include pre-treatment facilities, clariflocculators, rapid gravity sand filters, chlorine disinfection, chemical dosing systems, dewatering units, and a SCADA control room. Together, these systems deliver safe drinking water while ensuring complete recovery of liquid waste.
The Challenge
- Rising demand for potable water in a rapidly growing urban hub.
- Heavy pressure on groundwater resources.
- Need for a sustainable, closed-loop system that ensures no untreated liquid is discharged into the environment.
The Solution
Enviro engineered a next-generation water treatment facility integrated with ZLD systems:
- Conventional treatment units (clariflocculators, rapid gravity sand filters, chlorination) for reliable, large-scale water supply.
- Zero Liquid Discharge integration to capture, treat, and recycle every drop of wastewater, turning it into a resource instead of a pollutant.
- Automation & monitoring via SCADA, ensuring real-time control and optimisation of the entire process.
The Results
- 212 MLD of safe drinking water supplied to Surat’s growing population.
- 290 MLD of ZLD capacity ensuring no untreated discharge and full water recovery.
- Significant reduction in groundwater dependency, helping conserve the city’s natural reserves.
- Establishes a national benchmark for municipal ZLD implementation at scale.
Why It Matters
The Kosad ZLD facility demonstrates how urban water supply and sustainability can go hand in hand. By combining large-scale drinking water production with zero liquid discharge, Enviro sets a new precedent for Indian cities, proving that every drop can be turned into a resource.
