Bamroli Phase II: 35 MLD Tertiary Expansion for Industrial Reuse

Completed in 2020 for Surat Municipal Corporation, this Phase II addition to the Bamroli Tertiary Treatment Plant (TTP) boosted capacity by 35 MLD using Ultrafiltration (UF) and Reverse Osmosis (RO) membranes. It treats secondary sewage to produce high-purity industrial-grade water (low TDS, BOD, color, contaminants), supplied to textile dyeing/printing units in Sachin GIDC.

Building on the pioneering 40 MLD Phase I (2014), this expansion supports Surat’s 115 MLD total reuse ecosystem (with Dindoli), generates revenue through water sales, reduces freshwater dependency, and reinforces the city’s leadership in sustainable wastewater recycling and circular economy practices.

Expanding Reuse Capacity for Sachin Industries & Sustainability

Key goals:

  • Add 35 MLD of tertiary treatment to meet rising industrial demand in Sachin GIDC from textile clusters.
  • Deliver consistent high-quality water via UF-RO to replace freshwater in dyeing/printing processes.
  • Increase SMC revenue from treated water sales while conserving groundwater.
  • Scale the successful Bamroli Phase I model for broader municipal reuse impact.
  • Contribute to Surat’s 100% wastewater recycling vision and environmental goals.

Integrating Expansion with Operational Reliability

Challenges included:

  • Adding 35 MLD capacity adjacent to the existing Phase I plant without disrupting ongoing operations.
  • Handling variable secondary effluent (potential industrial ingress) for stable UF/RO performance.
  • Maintaining high recovery and purity in a high-throughput modular setup.
  • Optimizing lifecycle costs (energy, chemicals, cleaning) amid revenue-focused tariffs.
  • Ensuring seamless tie-in to distribution pipelines for Sachin industries.

Modular UF-RO Expansion with Automated Efficiency

Built as a modular extension: UF pre-treatment for solids/microbial control + RO for TDS/desalination, with chemical dosing and automated cleaning to handle fouling risks.
Highlights:

  • Scalable UF-RO design for rapid deployment and lifecycle optimization.
  • PLC-SCADA automation for remote monitoring, consistent quality, and minimal manual intervention.
  • Multi-barrier approach ensuring industrial specs (e.g., low color/TDS for textile use).
  • Efficient reject management and high recovery to maximize net 35 MLD output.

This extension strengthened Surat’s reuse model with proven, revenue-positive tech.
